Introduction to DDtrac
The use of data collection and analysis
procedures to monitor the academic, social, and behavior progress of children
with developmental disabilities has long been recognized as a hallmark of
special education practice (Gunter et. al. 2003, Lovaas et. al. 1989). This course
examines how DDtrac, a specialized special education application, can provide benefits to
special education teachers and therapists. It demonstrates that the use of DDtrac can reduce many of the problems associated with more
traditional data collection methods. The
biggest benefit to such a system is the improved communication it provides and
the ability to spot education and behavior trends.
The four units cover the following topic areas:
- Unit 1: Using DDtrac for data entry
- Unit 2: Setting-up Goals and Objectives for individual students
- Unit 3: Using DDtrac's Reports and Charts
- Unit 4: Administering DDtrac (Students, Users & Groups)
Getting Started
- Each unit will guide you through the use of most of the major functional areas of DDtrac. They consist of
- Lecture which explains how the features being covered work
- Exercise which allows you to use DDtrac guides you through how to use the features being discussed.
- Self-check which allows you to check if you understand the features covered in the unit and are ready to move on.
- This course combines use of DDtrac with predefined "demonstration" students but also allows you to start using it with real students you are working with now. You will want to have a student IEP available before beginning Unit 2.
